Major Donor Reporting

Individuals, businesses, associations or corporations contributing an aggregate of $10,000 or more in any calendar year to state or local candidates or committees must file major donor reports under California law.

Reports are submitted several times a year depending on the level and timing of political activity. There are also special reporting requirements for late contributions and independent expenditures. Failure to file required disclosure statements can result in costly investigations by regulatory agencies and expensive litigation brought by private third party litigants.
